EduLab opens its doors

EduLab Monaco was officially opened on 17 October in the presence of Prince Albert II.

Located underneath the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, EduLab offers a 200 m² space where teachers can obtain training from experts in digital technology and experiment with innovative digital tools (virtual reality headsets, the latest laptops, educational robots, etc.).

A test classroom and co-design space are now available for teachers to use to create digital educational content that is adapted for and with their pupils. “The digital transition […] prompts us to really focus on and question educational practices. […] This new space, which is for all teachers, will be the cornerstone of the digital transformation in education in the Principality. Teachers, pupils and partners will work together here to build the educational experience of the future,” said Minister of the Interior Patrice Cellario.

Learning to code from nursery age

The opening of EduLab also provided an opportunity to present to the press one of the major achievements of e-education in Monaco: the introduction of coding lessons in schools from the beginning of the 2019/2020 academic year for all pupils enrolled in Monaco from the final year of nursery school (Grande Section) through to Year 10 (3^ème).

These classes, which will be extended to older secondary school pupils in the coming years, aim to “help children understand the world in which they live and to train them today in the skills they will need for the careers of the future,” added Frédéric Genta, Country Chief Digital Officer.
